In unprecedented times, uncertainty abounds. The onset of a global pandemic is no exception. The pandemic is changing the ways we work, socialize, learn, and prosper. To better understand the societal impacts and challenges shaped by COVID-19, we are partnering with the University of Illinois Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute for a new series: Ask the Experts: Understanding Contemporary Challenges in the Time of COVID-19.

Together, as students, faculty members, University staff, and community partners, we will discuss mental health, technology and privacy, and health vulnerabilities over several virtual sessions. For webinar updates, please visit the Understanding Contemporary Challenges Series Information webpage.

Ask the Experts: Health Disparities and COVID-19

While some say COVID-19 is “The Great Equalizer,” others point to the increasing problematic inequalities & health disparities in vulnerable communities. During Ask the Experts: Health Disparities and Covid-19 we asked faculty experts about the social factors behind these disparities. Our panelists discussed several topics, including how the decision to reopen schools affects vulnerable communities, addressing health disparities in our community, and the importance of targeted health communications.

Ask the Experts: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in C-U

This webinar is a lively panel discussion with community and university experts on race relations in Champaign-Urbana. The panelists used their expertise and experience to help understand racial inequality in Champaign-Urbana. The conversation informed our community members about the causes and consequences of race-related issues in the C-U area, and answered questions about the ways in which we, as a community, and as individuals in that community, might help strive for a more diverse and equitable community.

Ask the Experts: Mental and behavioral health during COVID-19 features University faculty experts who discussed managing mental health and close relationships during COVID-19. The experts also focused on managing work-life-balance, coping with grief, and navigating the concurrent trauma resulting from systematic racism during these challenging times.
