Identifying sources of inequality

Stewart Coles (Communication) designs survey-experiments to identify how media depictions of marginalized groups promote prejudice. Travis Dixon (Communication) conducts content analysis of both traditional and non-traditional (social) media to chart the emergence of racialized stereotypes. Aixa Marchand (Education) applies an interdisciplinary lens to identify the societal, contextual, and cultural factors that shape academic experiences of students of color. Michael Rizzo (Psychology) uses lab and online experiments to assess how children’s beliefs about and exposure to racial inequalities and hierarchies predict bias at different stages of development, with attention to the role of the social (e.g., home) environment.
