In September, CSBS hosted the Open House for New Researchers, welcoming new faculty and research staff from across campus to connect, learn more about CSBS, and explore opportunities for collaboration. The open house featured refreshments from Neil St. Blues and a warm introduction to the center’s mission and resources. CSBS Director Eva Pomerantz gave a brief presentation highlighting how CSBS supports social and behavioral science research at Illinois.

Attendees learned about the CSBS Small Grant Program and the variety of interdisciplinary support available through the center. Dr. Pomerantz emphasized that CSBS assistance can be tailored to a project’s needs at any stage, from idea development to proposal writing and dissemination. However, she shared that “earlier is always better,” as CSBS can offer proposal feedback, connect researchers with collaborators and resources, and even help identify alternative funding pathways when needed.
Following the Q&A, guests socialized over refreshments and played a lively round of networking bingo, designed to create opportunities for new connections across disciplines. Participants mingled as they searched for a colleague who “has worked in another industry,” “speaks more than one language,” or “doesn’t drink coffee.” Winners walked away with CSBS coffee mugs and plenty of smiles, and many left with new collaborators to follow up with after the event.
For those who attended the Open House as well as those who couldn’t make it, keep your eye our for our upcoming emerging investigator events.
Thank you to all who attended. We look forward to supporting your research and collaboration here at Illinois.
